Treatment Instructions
Important notes before Monitored Anesthetic Care
- Please keep fasting for at least 6 hours before the procedure.
- Please do not wear any contact lens or accessories (including earrings, rings, watches and necklaces etc.) before the procedure.
- For the ease of monitoring, please avoid painting fingernails or wearing fake nails.
Important notes after Monitored Anesthetic Care
- You will need to take at least 1 to 2 hours of rest in the recovery room before going home.
- You can drink small amount of water 1 hour after the procedure. You can resume normal diet after going home.
- Please do not go home alone. Please ask your relatives or friends to accompany you.
- Please do not make any major decision (for example, legal documents) within 24 hours of the procedure.
Retainers Information
- Whole-day wearing except eating and cleaning teeth
- Discomfort and difficulties in speaking may occur in the early stage. Improvement will be shown normally after few days. If the problems consist, please contact the clinic.
- Brushing teeth and retainers gently twice a day are recommended to prevent germs and stains.
- If there is any breakage, unfit or lose of the retainers, kindly contact the clinic.
- Patients are advised to do regular review by dentist to ensure the function of the retainers.
After implant surgery information
- Hot food and drinks should be avoided on the day of surgery.
- Don’t drink wine and smoking within 2 weeks.
- Violent exercise should be avoided within 2 days.
- The local anesthetic will last for 2-3 hours generally. Lips, tongue and the cheeks will feel numb. Please be careful when eating and drinking.
- Painkillers could be taken following doctor’s instructions if necessary. Do not overdose.
- Antibiotics is advised to finish the whole course of medication.
- Corsodyl mouthwash should be used after surgery day to keep the wound clean.
- Slight swelling may occur on face in first few days. If swelling consists for a week, please contact the clinic for follow-up action.
- Eating and brushing on the wound area should be avoided. Keep brushing other teeth normally.
- Removal of suture will be arranged a week after surgery.
- Please contact the clinic as soon as possible if any part of the implant is loosen or fallen off.
Filling and crown information
- The local anesthetic will last for 2-3 hours generally. Lips, tongue and the cheeks will feel numb. Please be careful when eating and drinking.
- No eating for one hour after treatment.
- Biting and chewing should be avoided on the side of teeth under treatment as the filling/ cementation material has not completely harden and dried up.
- Pain may occur 1-2 weeks after treatment normally. If pain consist or even get worse, please contact the clinic for examination.
- Root canal treatment may be needed if pain consists.
Notice for Wearing Denture
- Remove Denture.
- Brushing and cleaning the teeth effectively with toothbrush and floss twice a day. Please use fluoride toothpaste.
- Please clean the denture gently without toothbrush.
- Soak the denture into water every day before sleep.
- Please clean the denture before using in the morning.
- Use water to clean the denture after eating.
- Regular check-up by dentist is recommended as periodontal disease and caries may occur.
After oral surgery information
- Gauze should be bit for 30 minutes and saliva should be swallowed instead of spitting out.
- Hot food and drinks, violent exercise and smoking should be avoided on the day of surgery.
- The local anesthetic drug will last for 2-3 hours generally. Lips, tongue and the cheeks will feel numb. Please be careful when eating and drinking.
- If the wound bleeds again, put a sterile gauze on the wound and bite for another half an hour.
- Painkillers could be taken following doctor’s instructions if necessary. Do not overdose. Antibiotics is advised to finish the whole course of medication.
- Brushing teeth normally and warm saline mouthwash should be used start from next day to keep the wound clean.
- Slight swelling may occur on face in first few days.
- Removal of suture will be arranged a week after surgery.
